Study Permit for Canada

Canada is one of the top destinations in the world for international students due to its high-quality education, multicultural environment, and post-study opportunities. A Canadian Study Permit allows foreign nationals to pursue academic, vocational, or professional training at designated learning institutions (DLIs).

Who Needs a Study Permit?

Most international students require a study permit if they plan to study in Canada for more than six months. You must apply before arriving in Canada unless you're eligible to apply at the port of entry.

A study permit is not a visa—you may also need a visitor visa or electronic travel authorization (eTA).

Eligibility Requirements

Letter of acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI)
Proof of sufficient funds to cover tuition, living expenses, and return transportation
Clean background check (police certificate may be required)
Medical exam (if applicable)
Proof of intention to leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay
